Recently, we filmed a documentary deep in the heart of Maralal, a place where electricity is virtually nonexistent.
The region is rich with stories that can turn heads, but filming there comes with serious logistical challenges, especially when it comes to accessing power.
During our two weeks on location, we faced a recurring problem, recharging batteries and powering lights. A standard V-Mount battery could only run an Aputure 300D for about 25 minutes, which was frustrating when we needed consistent lighting for interviews and b-roll.
One of the crew members suggested using a Delta EcoFlow 2 from Africa CineKit Rentals, paired with its solar panel.
The Delta EcoFlow works almost like a UPS System, which stores power while in use, so that lights and devices can keep running even while it’s charging.
Thanks to Maralal’s generous sun, we were able to run it throughout the shoot.
From that moment, our filming days ran smoothly, our lights stayed powered, batteries were consistently recharged, and even during downtime, the lighting department could plug in phones and other devices via the Delta EcoFlow.
It has proven to be an essential tool on film sets not just in remote-arid locations, but anywhere you want to avoid unexpected power failures.
It has become our go-to solution for reliable, portable power, and we’ll definitely be renting it more often.
